| Frederick Hohman introduces us to the 1863 E. F. Walcker / 1947 Aeolian-Skinner organ at the Methuen Memorial Music Hall in Methuen, Massachusetts, where this famous organ was moved from Boston’s Music Hall at the turn-of-the-century to a spectacular building designed for it by famed architect Henry Vaughan. Once owned by Ernest Skinner, the organ was rebuilt by Aeolian-Skinner in 1947. Hohman plays deGrigny, Mulet, Rachmaninoff and Wagner’s Ride of the Valkyries. He and curator Robert Newton tour the organ's 6,027 pipes behind the impressive case carved of American black walnut. Available only as DVD | |
